Meet our staff.
David Harling
Owner/Operator
*David has been in the pool industry since 1986. He ventured out on his own and started Big State Pools in 1989. He paused Big State Pools in 1997 and worked for Hayward Pool Products from 1997-2005. During this time, he really ramped up his knowledge of Hayward products. Then in 2005, he restarted Big State and became one of the first warranty stations for Hayward in the Houston area. David has always put 100% into his work. In his spare time, David enjoys spending time with his family.
Adam Harling
Senior Service Tech
*Adam started working for Big State Pools in 2007 during his senior year in high school. He has continued to grow in his knowledge over the years and very early on, became licensed. We get many compliments from customers about Adam’s professionalism and genuine care. Adam is always conscientious; he always strives to do what is right by everyone. Adam is married to his lovely wife Tina; he has one daughter, and one on the way (coming soon in September 2025). In his spare time, Adam enjoys playing disc golf and relaxing with family.
Angela Robertson
Customer Care Representative
*Angela has been with Big State Pools since 2008. Angela’s unrelenting care for our customers is an inspiration. She juggles many tasks, including scheduling service calls, sending out estimates, filing warranty claims with Hayward, keeping an eye on inventory, making sure all of the techs are up-to-date on their vehicle maintenance, and much more! She takes and makes many phone calls each day, contacting our customers, staying in touch with the techs with questions they may have, ordering parts and contacting installers and manufacturers. Angela and Mike (*see below) have 5 children, 3 grandchildren and one more grandchild on the way (arriving November 2025). In her spare time, Angela enjoys going to the casino and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mike Robertson
Weekly Maintenance Specialist
*Mike has been with Big State Pools since 2011. Mike works consistently and faithfully taking care of our weekly maintenance customers. He is careful to notify us right away if he spots something that needs attention so that we can quickly address the issue. Mike never complains; he does his job day-in and day-out without seeking any fanfare. How much our customers love Mike is shown by the tenure of our weekly maintenance customers. Most have been with us for several years; some even as long as 13 years. Mike enjoys watching F1 car racing and participating in Fantasy Football. He and Angela have 5 grown children and 3 grandchildren (one more on the way in November 2025).
Randy Rubac
Service Technician
*Randy has been with Big State Pools since 2021. Coming from a background as a Supervisor in the pipe fitting industry, Randy already had knowledge of plumbing. He very quickly jumped in and was eager to learn the pool industry and obtain his license, which he did in 2022. Randy is a delight; he is always upbeat and positive. He is very flexible when we need an extra job taken care of, or need to revamp the schedule. In addition to doing repairs, Randy also runs one of our maintenance routes. Randy is married to his beautiful wife, Tammy, and in his spare time enjoys fishing and hunting. He has also won multiple awards for his BBQ skills.
Rebecca Harling
Overall Operations
*Rebecca is married to David and helped him first start Big State Pools in 1989. She also worked full-time at ADP in HR and Payroll for 20 years. Bringing her corporate experience to the small business world has been valuable in structuring the business. Rebecca takes care of the ‘running a business’ part of Big State, including payroll, taxes, inventory, filing claims, sending parts back to the manufacturer, making sure our techs have what they need when they are out in the field, advertising. Her most important job for Big State is taking care of our team and making them feel appreciated and valued. In her spare time, she enjoys time with her grandchildren, being out in nature (when it’s not too hot) and just relaxing with family.
